Light Shower – A Protected Space in Public Space
“Light Shower” is one of the works I have exhibited in recent years at various locations and in different exhibition contexts. It focuses on the experience of light as an immaterial material that transforms the space and, for a moment, transports the visitor away from everyday life.
For the Ville des Arts Biennial in Waldenburg, the installation was expanded for the first time to include a transparent glass cabin. It creates a sheltered, almost intimate space in the midst of public space. Although visitors remain visible, a spatial distance from the surroundings is created inside. The noise and hustle and bustle of the outside world recede into the background, making way for a moment of calm and concentration.
The light shower invites visitors to pause, expose themselves to the light, and consciously experience their own perceptions. The enclosed space intensifies this experience and transforms the installation into a place of contemplation—a temporary retreat that remains, at the same time, part of public life.
The new glass cabin adds an extra dimension to the work: it combines openness and protection, visibility and privacy, and raises the question of how little it takes to create a personal space within a public setting.
